Artys – Advanced enviRonmental moniToring and analYsis Systems – is an innovative start-up (under Italian law, comma 2 art. 25 D.L. n. 179/2012), also recognized as a spin-off of the University of Genoa, founded in November 2014, by Darts along with some professors and researchers of the department DITEN of the University of Genoa, focused on research, design, development and consultancy in environmental monitoring, performed by models and innovative technologies.
Currently Artys focuses primarily on offering innovative products and services for nowcasting (real-time rainfall monitoring and short-term forecasts). Concerning SRS, it is the result of a research carried out jointly by the University of Genoa – with its departments DITEN (Department of Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication Engineering, and Naval Architecture), and DICCA (Department of Civil, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering) – and the Genoese SME Darts Engineering. A patent procedure was submitted by the University of Genoa and Darts Engineering in 2012; as a result, an Italian patent was granted in 2014 (n. 0001412786 - Sistema e metodo di monitoraggio di un territorio). The European patent extension is actually pending (n. EP2688223 - System and method for monitoring a territory).
The patent rights were uniquely licensed to Artys by the above said patent’s owners. Artys is focused, since its foundation on the industrialization of SRS, in order to bring the system on the global market.
